What you will study

 

Anatomy of a Fashion Business

The world is changing, and business must transform with it. Investors and the marketplace are increasingly looking for businesses with a niche approach -innovative business models that positively impact communities and/or the environment. The focus of this module will critically look at the essential elements in forming an agile and innovative business model and structure. With a renewed emphasis on passion and culture (increasingly being discussed as key success factors in the current market climate) this module reflects the ever-changing environment and the impact technology has on strategy.

 

Establishing a Fashion Business Strategy

Small brands are increasingly finding opportunities in unusual places – personalisation and the rise of the resellers market are both creating opportunities for new brands and businesses. This module analyses strategy development and implementation within new and developing fashion businesses/markets, which in turn helps to identify new opportunities, whilst also addressing limitations SME’s face such as experience and resource.

 

Global Fashion Branding and Marketing Communications

With an emphasis on digital marketing, you will develop a critical understanding of fashion branding and marketing theory through an examination of key theoretical frameworks relating to brand culture, brand relationships, brand personality and brand identity. Given the industry’s increased use of content marketing, in particular, the growing importance of brand storytelling, this module also addresses data analytics, specifically looking at the translation of data and storytelling when shaping marketing communication strategy.

 

Fashion Growth Strategies and Performance Optimisation

Explores growth strategy opportunities and performance optimisation techniques for fashion businesses and develops an advanced understanding of the key strategic processes and complexities of internationalisation for a fashion business. In addition to this, financial and resource management are explored, given that these are both that are critical for success and growth.

 

Introduction to Research Method

Introduces students to research approaches and time management skills essential for their research project. The module provides essential knowledge of research design across key areas and adopts a critical perspective in comparing and contrasting alternative research models.

 

Career Planning and Professional Development

Equips students with the capability to identify their own skills, values and interests and to match these with the knowledge, skills and abilities required in fashion business. Students will be given the opportunity to undertake an internship, volunteer, study abroad or take part in desk based consultancy. Students will be invited to apply the concepts of personal and professional development to what they are experiencing outside the classroom in order to be better prepared for their personal and professional life.

 

Global Trends and Developments in Fashion

Given the fashion sectors increased focus on disruptors and new business models, this module explores the central issues that are transforming the sector, identifying patterns of change in global markets and how this drives strategy. This module specifically looks at the macro-environmental pressures relevant to SME’s and start-ups in the fashion/fashion related industries.

 

Product/Service Innovation: concept to consumer

To remain competitive, businesses must create value for their consumers through the development and management of innovative products and services. Students will gain an indepth and critical understanding of product and service innovation in the fashion industry, as well as explore the strategies in managing these successful product and service innovation.Innovations in textiles, creation of sustainable products and digital automation in the development process will be a key focus, given the current market dynamics.

 

The Research Project

The final element of the programme gives students the opportunity to undertake an in-depth research study into students selected area.

 

Mentorship programme

 

You will have access to mentorship programmes via our Honorary Professors and be taught in dynamic environments such as Masterclasses and through collaborative industry briefs. You will also be able to attend our career enhancing Industry Speaker programme, which runs throughout the first and second semester.

 

Entry Requirements

 

Candidates are required to have a UK Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, at grade 2.2 or above.

Students whose first language is not English will need IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 (with no element less than 5.5).
