01 Oct MSc Fashion Business Creation alumna showcases luxury handbag brand Vesti as part of London Fashion Week
On 12th September, The Embassy of Philippines invited MSc Fashion Business Creation graduate Martha Rodriguez to London to showcase her brand, Vesti at The Embassy Previews as part of London Fashion Week.
Vesti is a brand focused on luxury bags and prestige accessories inspired by Martha’s home, Mindanoa and its rich weaving community with an emphasis on art, culture and ethical business.
The Embassy Previews is an initiative for upcoming and promising Filipino designers to present their brand and new collections during London Fashion Week. During this event, Vesti showcased its new men’s collection which incorporates yakan weaves on high quality leather influenced by the fast-paced city life Martha experienced whilst studying at the British School of Fashion in London.
During the event, Martha also talked about her journey working with Mindanao’s artisan communities and how they inspired and worked with her to create each one of her unique pieces for Vesti.
Speaking to the British School of Fashion, Martha said “I design my own bags, I love working with the different weavers and artisans and weaving their stories into mine. Each bag comes with a story and is carefully crafted with love for you to have and to hold.
“I believe that you must stay true to who you are, figure out what you want and just go for it. Using the necessary tools, opportunities presented, putting faith in people and understanding the strategic journey. Without a doubt, everything for me just came together. From being one of the RetailRight Scholars, finishing my MSc Fashion Business Creation in London and getting to learn more about how the fashion industry works, to having professors who challenged me to elevate the brand and now this huge opportunity to showcase Vesti at the Embassy Previews during London Fashion Week.
“The British School of Fashion definitely helped me continue with this journey. I would like to deeply thank everyone who believed in my creativity and vision in making Vesti a global luxury brand.”
Erica Charles (MSc Fashion Business Creation Programme Leader) said, “When Martha arrived at the British School of Fashion, she wanted to take her existing business to the next level; she needed to give her brand Vesti a new lease of life. So, it really was a privilege to see Martha present her new collection at the Embassy of Philippines.
“It was clear to see that she had really taken on board and implemented learnings from the Fashion Business Creation programme, and presented a professional and commercial collection. I am also so proud of her for remaining true to her ethos, of ‘giving back’ to the talented community with whom she works with in the Philippines. Congratulations Martha, and wish you much continued success.”
